Uncommon Garden Pest

Let me tell you about a very uncommon home and garden pest: the dog. More specifically, a 70 pound Basset mix… His name is Archibald. He’s a rescue. He’s very overweight. He’s always hungry.

Earlier this summer, he ate all 4 of my cabbages. This week, he ate several of my tomatoes and a few bell pepper plants.

Let me tell you, I was a mad. 😠

Yesterday, I was baking bread and cinnamon rolls for an order I received (selling bread and baked goods is my side hustle). I had the powdered sugar out for the cream cheese frosting. I didn’t think anything of it since it was in a baggie on the shelf. I made a quick run to the grocery store while everything was cooling. I get home and find him covered and powdered sugar and my brown kitchen was suddenly white!! Archibald and I made eye contact and he ran, leaving a white trail of paw prints through my living room!

Now this was next level mad! 😡

Now, jump forward to today, I come home from a grocery store trip (to replace the powdered sugar), and guess what I find?! There’s Archibald, again in the kitchen, this time he’s gotten into an eaten all my whole wheat flour and most of the AP flour!! The kitchen was again covered in a white powder. I looked at him and pulled a gummy glob of flour that was hanging from his mouth.

I was so angry, my husband quickly and quietly backed out of the room. 🤬

So, moral of the story, be vigilant of uncommon pests. Also, don’t leave bags of sugar and flour on open air shelves in the kitchen. 🤦‍♀️
