Something I recommend having when starting the gardening and homesteading journey is to make sure you are supported by those you live with. I have been blessed with a very laid back, understanding husband. He supports all my wacky ideas. 👩❤️👨
When I decided that I wanted to start a garden, he was totally on board, as that has been something he’s always wanted to do. He helped me build the raised beds and carry the soil and plant all the veggies. This was great!
Then, I decided that I wanted to expand the garden for next year. He thought this was a great idea! He helped me map out where everything would go and what all I should grow.
When I said we need to fence everything in, he was on board. He said he’ll help me move the current garden so we can get the fence in.
Next I said I wanted to get chickens. This is when he started to become unsure of my sanity. Maybe I’d been stuck in quarantine for too long, he thought. 😂 But,oh was I serious! When I took him outside to show him where the coop would go, and I told him all the benefits of raising hens, he would just say “yes, dear.” When I went on the tell him that my hens will all have names, he said, “I’m not surprised as this point.”
When I went on the say that I also wanted fruit trees, he was like no, no, no. However, I am very convincing! 😁
Every new idea I come up with now, he just gets on board. He says he’s along for the ride and is happy that I’m happy.
He also has a love hate relationship with my baking. He loves being my honorary taste tester, but that also means I’m loading him up on extra carbs and calories! 🍞
Moral of the story, make sure you have a support system in place and don’t go too overboard (learn from my craziness)!
